A trusted partner in the college search

A trusted partner in the college search

Our Mission:

To help you find your way to a college where you will be happy – so happy that you will want to stay there for four years, and where you will be challenged academically, but not overwhelmed.

How We Do It:

We listen carefully to learn about who you are and to understand your dreams for your future. We are counselors by training and we take this very personally and seriously. We promise to bring a sense of calm to your search. We know how important this journey is to your future and we know that it has to be all about YOU. We take a personalized one-on-one approach to make sure that you feel supported and guided all the way.

Meet Nancy Federspiel, MS, Educational Consultant

Nancy enjoys helping people make big decisions and has been doing so since 1995 – first as a career counselor and then as an independent college counselor (since 2006). Nancy was an alumni interviewer for her alma mater, Brown University, for 20 years. She holds a master’s degree in College Student Development and Counseling from Northeastern University.

In addition to working with hundreds of students over the years, Nancy has extensive knowledge of the ins and outs of education from her experience as a three-term elected member of her regional school board of which she served as chair for five years. Nancy also can relate to the college search journey from the parent perspective as a parent of three who have already been through it.

Nancy is an active Professional Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) where she is held to ethical standards that are truly important. She has held various leadership roles at IECA. Nancy is committed to professional development and regularly attends conferences and professional retreats. She continues to visit (and re-visit) colleges throughout the country on a regular basis to stay on top of what is new on a variety of college campuses. She has personally visited nearly 400 colleges.

Meet Susan Lott, MLS, Essay Expert

Susan gives her students the tools, and instills in them the confidence, to become strong writers. She has worked as an A.P. English teacher at Guilford High School in Guilford, CT since 1996, as a private tutor for over a decade, and currently as an essay expert at College Consulting Services.

Susan knows the college application and essay writing process well. As both a teacher of writing and as a mother of three, she has supported not only her many students but also her own children as they navigate the daunting college application process.

Susan was certified to teach English through Yale’s teacher preparation program and holds a Masters of Liberal Studies degree with a concentration in writing from Wesleyan University.

Meet Ellen Swiggett, MA, Essay Expert

Ellen is a retired high school English teacher with over twenty years of teaching experience, including honors classes.  For the majority of her career, she taught high school juniors and seniors, and during her tenure she helped hundreds of students write and edit successful college essays.

As a teacher, and as a mother who oversaw the college searches of her three children, Ellen intimately understands the importance of crafting a strong essay and application. She loves working with teenagers, getting to know them, and supporting them as they brainstorm essay topics that reflect their unique qualities and experiences.  As an educator whose first love is the teaching of writing, Ellen revels in helping students find their authentic voice.  She brings knowledge, warmth, and energy to the process.

Ellen holds a BA in American Studies from Middlebury College and an MA in English Education from Southern Connecticut State University.
